About Simon Chesters Thompson

Simon Chesters Thompson was for many years the National Trust’s curator for the English East Midlands where he was responsible for the organisation’s acquisition of Stoneywell Cottage and its preservation as a masterpiece of the Arts & Crafts. Prior to this he worked as an antiques valuer & auctioneer at Bonhams and Sotheby’s – where he specialized in antiquarian horology having gotten his professional qualifications in the Fine Art & Antiques Division of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is now a freelance tour guide, speaker and writer, and a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation with a particular interest in the architecture of the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries.
