Mary Greensted worked at Leicester and Leeds before going to the Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum as Keeper of Museums in 1974. She was primarily responsible for developing Cheltenham’s extensive collection of work of the Arts & Crafts Movement through acquisitions and the publication of detailed catalogues. Since leaving Cheltenham in 2008 she has been an active trustee as Court Barn Museum, Chipping Campden and served as Chairman of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen from 2009-18. She has published a number of books including Gimson and the Barnsleys: Wonderful Furniture of a Commonplace Kind (1980); The Arts and Crafts Movement in the Cotswolds (1993); An Anthology of the Arts and Crafts Movement (2005); The Arts & Crafts Movement in Britain (2010); and Ernest Gimson: Arts & Crafts Designer and Architect (2019). She has lectured in Britain and further afield including Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles and contributed to a number of major books and exhibitions including ‘International Arts & Crafts’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2010.
