Liverpool: England’s Second City and North Wales

While in Liverpool we will also spend a day at Port Sunlight the enlightened workers village built by Lord Lever with homes by such major architects as Edwin Lutyens and Ernest George. The village had churches, a library, a pub, and the recently renovated Lady Lever Art Gallery. Built by Lord Lever for his workers at the soap factory, we will also visit his own home, Thornton Manor – quite a contrast.

We’ll also spend a day in Manchester, another exceptional 19th century industrial city where among other places we’ll visit the Town Hall and the City Art Gallery.

Then into North Wales. Here we enjoy quite spectacular mountains, valleys, and scenic drives. We’ll walk an aqueduct, stay in a 17th century coaching inn and a glorious country house hotel. We’ll visit the exceptional Portmeirion designed by Clough Williams-Ellis as well as his own home. And we’ll see the extraordinary little Brithdir church designed by Henry Wilson, as well as Chirk Castle and the very special home of “The Ladies” Plas Newydd. We do hope you will select this tour for next June.
